VII JORNADAS DE FILOSOFÍA POLÍTICA del SFP-UB: FIGURAS DE LA EMANCIPACIÓN
Universitat de Barcelona, 15-18 November 2010
CFP:
“Figures of Emancipation” will be the topic for critical discussion of the 7th Political Philosophy Conference, convened by the Political Philosophy Seminar at the University of Barcelona. We believe that the current crisis and backward steps regarding past social achievements, along with the impoverishment of the political discourse, turn the present moment into a good one to discuss a topic such as emancipation. Emancipatory struggles have undergone historical periods of rise and fall in both the political discourse and the political practice—sometimes gone with revolutions, other times silenced by the counterrevolutions. And, in each of these moments, proposals for emancipation have expressed themselves very diversely. Nowadays, the idea of emancipation remains fragmented, divided into “specializations” and “trades,” just as it happens with knowledge and labor. The unitary project of human emancipation of the Enlightenment has given way to very diverse forms of emancipation—feminist, environmentalist, cultural, ethnic, social, of the peoples and of the minorities—gaining intensity at the expense of unity...More info in: http://www.ub.edu/demoment/jornadasfp2010/

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM "YES, WE KANT!"
Yes we Kant!
Critical reflections on objectivity:
its meaning, its limitations, its fateful omissions
May 27-29, 2010
Ghent-Belgium
Centre for Critical Philosophy
www.criticalphilosophy.ugent.be
CFP:
"The aim of this three-day international workshop is to present and
exchange various critical viewpoints on objectivity and subjectivity,
and to more specifically focus on the various interpretations of
necessity in its relation to contingency. This approach on the matter
can find inspiration in Kant’s third Critique, but this source of
inspiration should certainly not be considered as the only possible
one. Husserl's gesture to extrapolate the co-constitutive relation
between objectivity and subjectivity to history is but one example of
objectivity seen from a dynamical, contingently, historically and
subjectively grounded background, the life-world. The meeting is open
to explore other backgrounds.
To realize that end, we invited speakers from different disciplinary
backgrounds – physics, mathematics, biology, human and social sciences,
– and embedded in quite divergent philosophical contexts. This
meeting is not in the first place about critically, exegetically,
discussing Kant’s texts. Its aim is rather to inquire whether, and in
what sense, a return to Kant and to neo-Kantianism can be important to
open unsuspected perspectives on objectivity (and subjectivity). We
conjecture that this approach can be relevant (i) for a contemporary
reading of basic texts in the tradition of transcendental philosophy,
(ii) for a conception of objectivity that can have a relevance in
current philosophy and in philosophy of science in particular, and
(iii) for the development of a transcendental viewpoint in philosophy
of science, supplementing and challenging current dominant analytical
viewpoints."

CFP 3rd Global Conference Heavy Fundametalisms: Can I Play with Madness? Metal, Dissonance, Madness and Alienation
Call for Papers
"From the outset of the forging Heavy Metal’s music and culture, madness
has been an ever present theme. From Black Sabbath’s Paranoid through
Iron Maiden’s Can I Play with Madness? to the more recent Psychosocial
chant from Slipknot, madness and mental illness are just of the few well
known examples has featured in the Metal mainstream. It is a
fascination with madness that further belches out on to the surface from
the metal underground. Madness is not confined to the lyrical and
musical expressions of the artists, but can be used to describe features
of the entire metal scene in its exuberant expression of alienation, by
individuals through to the chaotic theatre of the pit"

SCENOGRAPHY EXPANDING, Riga - Belgrade - Evora 2010
Invitation and Call for Papers
Throughout the past decade, scenographic practice and performance design have continuously moved beyond the black box of the theatre toward a hybrid terrain located at the intersections of theatre, architecture, exhibition, visual arts, and media. This terrain and its spaces are constructed from action and interaction. They are defined by individual and group behavior, and are contrasted by distinct behavioral patterns.
It is proposed here that spaces that are staged in such a way – spaces that are at the same time hybrid, mediated, narrative, and transformative – result from a trans-disciplinary understanding of space and a distinct awareness of social agency. These two factors of “expansion” are seen as the central driving forces in contemporary scenographic practice and thought.
With the aim of initiating and hosting an active and trans-disciplinary discourse on the notion of an expanding scenography, the Prague Quadrennial for Performance Design and Space issues an invitation for participation and a Call for Papers for the symposia and workshop sessions, Scenography Expanding 1-3 in 2010. Grouped under the overriding and programmatic title of Scenography Expanding, invited academic papers, artist’s presentations and expert workshop sessions will be looking to engage with notions of spectatorship, artists/authors, and curating in relation to the diverse artistic positions in contemporary spatial design.
In preparation for the Intersection Project of the Prague Quadrennial in June, 2011, we invite researchers in practice and theory (artists, curators, programers, directors, dramaturgs, critics, and theorists) to participate in 3 international scenography symposia held in Riga, Belgrade and Évora during 2010. The overall aim of these symposia is to unfold the wide range of disciplines, genres, theoretical, and artistic positions that comprise the relationships between spectator, artist/author and curator in contemporary scenographic/performance design practice.
Scenography Expanding 1-3 will be followed up by a peer-reviewed publication comprised of selected speakers` contributions in the form of academic papers and visual essays.
